Breast cancer is the cancer initiating from breast tissue, most usually from the internal lining of milk channels or the lobules that brings milk to the duct. Cancers instigating from ducts are identified as ductal carcinomas; those instigating from lobules are identified as lobular carcinomas. Breast cancer is the most general cause of cancer in women.

Cancer initiates in cells, the structural blocks that compose tissues. Tissues compose the breasts and further parts of the body. Ordinary cells develop and segregate to form new cells as the body requires them. When ordinary cells develop old or get scratched, they expire, and new cells take their position. At times, this practice goes mistaken. Fresh cells form when the body does not require them, and old or spoiled cells do not pass away as they ought to. The upsurge of additional cells often forms a mob of tissue called a lump or tumor.

The alternatives are surgical treatment, radiation treatment, chemotherapy, hormone treatment, and targeted therapy. One may obtain more than one type of therapy. Surgery and radiation therapy are sort of local therapy. They wipe out cancer in the breast. Hormone therapy and chemotherapy are kind of systemic therapy. The medicine goes into the bloodstream and annihilates or organizes cancer right through the body.

Liver cancer can called as a metastatic cancer because in almost all cases, the cancer actually development from original cancer which has been spread to other area.
All chemotherapy treatment gives various side effects. But the most common chemotherapy side effects for liver cancer are lost of appetite which can be serious problem that could decrease chances of survival. But this condition can eliminate by used some drugs like marinol to increase appetite and decrease nausea.

When a pregnant woman grows breast cancer, it is frequently detected at a later stage than it is in women who are not pregnant. The early alterations caused by cancer can be mistaken for or hidden by the normal alterations that occur with pregnancy as well.

Even as long as pregnancy, early detection is a significant element of breast health.

There are many forms of medication that you may be prescribed with various types of side effect to go with each. Your doctor will go over your particular case with you and determine which type of treatment is the best.

Your treatment may consist of such treatments as Chemotherapy, Hormone therapy, Biological therapy, Alternative and complimentary therapy and of course drug treatment. Chemotherapy uses anti-cancer drugs which are done intravenously, by mouth, Injectable and topical applications. They stop the growth of cancer cells as they destroy the cells. This type of treatment is usually done in cycles. They will usually alternate treatments with rest periods to allow the person to recuperate.

Some of the anti-cancer medications that your doctor may use may include such medications as: Hexalen, Elspar, Blenoxane, Xeloda, Idamycin and Doxil just to name a few. Most cancer medications come with a hefty list of side effects. Unfortunately the necessity of the medication makes it almost impossible to avoid side effects. If you suffer from severe side effects your doctor will most likely prescribe another medication to counter act the side effects.

Some of the side effects that you may or may not experience with cancer medications might be: Feeling very tired and weak, more susceptible to infections and they can bleed and bruise easily. Keep in mind that you can use other drugs to counteract the side effects and that makes it much easier for you to undergo the necessary cancer treatment.

Radiation therapy is the form of treatment where they use ionizing radiation. This type of treatment kills off the cell in the area that is being treated. This makes it impossible for the cells to grow back. Often times the area of cancer will be surgically removed and then the radiation and chemotherapy will start. If you choose to do the hormone therapy, this is where you will be given hormones to change the way your cells grow in your body.

Biological therapy is also known as Immunotherapy as it helps you make use of your immune system to help with your side effects from other medications as well as fighting off the cancer cells.

No matter which form of cancer you suffer from, be sure to keep a good line of communication open with your doctor. Educate yourself on all of your medications and be sure to know what side effects that you may or may not experience. Before starting any type of new treatment, be sure to discuss all of your options with your oncologist. He or she will be more than happy to go over your treatment plan in detail so you can be well informed on what to expect. If you find a medication that you are interested in then bring this up with your doctor as well so that he or she can consider it as a possibility or let you know why it is not a good choice.

Tamoxifen was the first selective estrogen receptor modulator developed and has been used for over 20 years. Recently, several other drugs of this class have been released and more are presently undergoing development. The goal is to develop the “perfect” drug in this class that prevents breast cancer without stimulating the uterus, is beneficial to the skeletal system and is good for lipid metabolism with as minimal side effects as possible. The perfect selective estrogen receptor modulator should also be an excellent hormone replacement agent for women entering menopause.

Tamoxifen is orally administered just like other hormones. Aside from rendering breast cancer cells into apoptosis, it also acts like estrogen on other tissues and has a positive effect on bone metabolism. Tamoxifen, in comparison to estrogen, stimulates the uterine lining more and both substances are equally effective in retaining bone calcium.

Several studies have shown that Tamoxifen increases the cure rate of women with non-invasive breast cancer, but is still controversial in its clinical use. The controversy lies on a recent clinical trial, which aimed to determine if Tamoxifen was effective in primary breast cancer prophylaxis in high risk asymptomatic women. At the end of the trial, Tamoxifen was dealt with severe scrutiny and a large amount of negative press overstating its potential adverse effects for asymptomatic women. There is, indeed, no question that Tamoxifen is an extremely potent drug in the treatment of breast cancer patients. Based on the results of another clinical trial involving the use of Tamoxifen, treatment duration plays a significant role in drug treatment outcome. This clinical trial compared five years versus ten years of using Tamoxifen after the diagnosis of breast cancer. The trial showed that five years of taking Tamoxifen significantly diminished the systemic recurrence of breast cancer. On the other hand, an additional five years added only expense and potential risk of uterus cancer with no additional benefits in cure rate. Not all breast cancers, however, respond to Tamoxifen treatment. Response rate to Tamoxifen varies upon the abundance of estrogen and progesterone receptors in the primary cancer.

Since breast cancers are very heterogeneous, they do not develop in the same cellular way. About 60 percent of breast cancers contain estrogen and progesterone receptors, while others contain less. Tamoxifen appears to be more effective in women who have more of these hormone receptors in their tumors than those who do not. On the other hand, within a given breast cancer, there may be cells that have more hormone receptors than others do. Hence, the effect of Tamoxifen on these conditions varies. It is also possible that over time, breast cancer cells that are hormone receptor positive may evolve and may not contain hormone receptors anymore. This may explain why women who receive a combination treatment of Tamoxifen and chemotherapy may have a better response to treatment than with either therapy given alone. In most cases, when chemotherapy and Tamoxifen are given in a cancer patient, they are given sequentially; initially, chemotherapy is given to destroy hormone receptor negative breast cancer cells and then followed by Tamoxifen, which can then act on hormone receptor positive cells that may be less susceptible to chemotherapeutic drugs.

In a few cases, perimenopausal women seem to have a difficulty with Tamoxifen use. Most premenopausal women in their 30s and 40s almost have no adverse effects with Tamoxifen and older women who are not in hormone replacement have little problem with Tamoxifen treatment.

The major side effect of Tamoxifen is uterine toxicity. Some women taking the drug have endometrial thickening, a stimulation of the glandular lining of the uterus, which can become cancerous if left unnoticed. The chance of developing uterine cancer as a result of Tamoxifen use is quite small, only about one percent. Nevertheless, the uterus must be monitored carefully with either an ultrasound or endometrial biopsy during the patient’s annual pelvic examination if she is taking this drug.

Lymphedema can be defined as the swelling of the limbs as a result of the non-functioning of the lymphatic system. A condition which is known as primary lymphedema may be inherited due to genetic factors and lineage of the individual. The other type of lymphedema is secondary lymphedema, where the patient may acquire the ailment as a result of an injury or obstruction to the smooth functioning of the lymphatic system.

Although lymphedema symptoms are seen mainly in the arms and legs, the ailment can influence any body part. The obvious sign of the disease is a swelling present in the area. The limb may feel heavy due to fluid accumulation. Lymph fluid may build up in the region of the head and neck; there may be skin discoloration or patches appearing on the affected limb. General first impression that the patient gets is a feeling of fullness in the limb. A cut or an injury to the limb treated for cancer could be a trigger for the swelling. An airplane trip may also be the first instance to prompt a lymphedema attack. Symptoms of lymphedema that you would notice are a sudden tightness in the wrist or ankles, restricting movement. Sometimes, it could be difficult to fit into your clothes or a ring or bracelet you could wear easily is suddenly becoming tight.

Many a times, lymphedema is a side-effect of breast cancer therapy. Women who undergo lumpectomy, mastectomy or the removal of lymph nodes in the armpit are prime candidates for the condition. In such cases, there is a change in the pathway of the lymph fluid, which is the reason for the condition. The symptoms may show up at any time after the operation and the condition may aggravate if not treated in time.

Recent studies state that controlled weight lifting may reduce the incidence of lymphedema for women who have had a mastectomy. Weight lifting may provide protective benefits to the affected arm by boosting the strength in that arm and improving circulation. Generally, an exercise schedule is a part of the lymphedema treatment therapy that is recommended by doctors.

Since treatment for cancer may lead to lymphedema, persons who have been treated for cancer are at a high risk for contracting the condition. Hence, such patients must be vigilant to note any symptoms of lymphedema. Treating the problem at the initial stage arrests the progress of the condition. If the symptoms are ignored, the ramifications can be severe and the damage may be irreversible. A nutritious diet with proper exercise plays an important role in maintaining the health of the lymphedema patient. A skin care routine is also essential. Lymphedema patients should protect themselves from any injury as much as possible to avoid the complications that may arise later. Even though there may not be a cure for lymphedema, it can be controlled with proper care and treatment.

More and more women are now surviving after being diagnosed with having breast cancer simply because it has been discovered in its very early stages of development. Because so much is being written on the subject more and more women are actually becoming aware of what the symptoms of breast cancer are and what they should do if they feel that they may be suffering from them.

The most common forms of benign lumps a woman is likely to suffer from and which can often be mistaken for being breast cancer are cysts and Fibroadenoma. Although a woman can suffer from these at any stage of her life, they more commonly occur once a woman has reached the age of 35 or beyond. But if you notice some dramatic changes in the way your breasts feel or look then it is important that seek medical advice as soon as possible. The kinds changes we are talking about which may well be caused by the development of breast cancer are as follows:

One of the most common symptoms associated with breast cancer is a lump or part of the breast seems to feel harder and thicker in texture to other parts of it. Also in some cases the skin may be come dimpled and will look just like the skin of an orange does. If you notice at any time the shape of your nipple has become to change or it does something completely out of character. It becomes to turn in or actually sinks back into the breast then this may be a sign of something serious. Plus if you begin to notice a blood colored discharge from this part of your breast it is essential you seek medical advice as soon as you can.

Although not a common symptom that a woman may possibly be developing breast cancer another one is that a rash appears on or around the nipple area. If after carrying out a self-examination of your breasts you find a lump either on the breast themselves or in your armpits, it is advisable that you seek medical attention as soon as possible. If the symptoms of breast cancer can be diagnosed when it is in the early stages of development, then there is an increased chance of the condition being treated and a cure found. This then increases a woman’s chances of actually surviving what used to be the most prevalent of all the cancers around to kill women.

The threat of breast cancer is upsetting for anyone, particularly during pregnancy, but it is not uncommon. Pregnant women and physicians should become more aware of the risk associated with cancer. The obstetricians are usually more focused on the health of the unborn baby than the mother’s possible illness but should be more aware of the risk of breast cancer. Women should examine their breasts regularly and tell their doctor about any changes they discover. Not only is diagnosis often delayed, but there is a high rate of false-negative results of a mammography due to the increased density of the breast during pregnancy. Ultrasonogaphy is the best way to check for cancerous lumps in pregnant and lactating women. Many studies have shown that the tumors in pregnant women are larger and are more likely to spread.

Pregnant women should be encouraged to know that treatment is as successful and safe as in non-pregnant women. Surgery is the best route although there is a small risk of premature labor. Radiation therapy is not offered during pregnancy but patients can be safely treated with certain forms of chemotherapy from three months onwards. This may be continued after the baby is born, although mothers should not breast feed their babies while they are having chemotherapy. Treatments are planned around the expected delivery date and are administered as close to term as possible, Through the process, oncologists communicate regularly with a woman’s obstetrician.

Overall survival of pregnant women with breast cancer may be worse than in non pregnant women at all stages however, this may be due primarily to delayed diagnoses. Termination of pregnancy has not been shown to have any beneficial effect on breast cancer outcome and is not usually considered as a therapeutic option. Termination of pregnancy, however, may be considered, based on the age of the fetus, and if maternal treatment options, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, are significantly limited by the continuation of the pregnancy.

Today, breast cancer is not the terrible disease it was a few years ago. Many women survive even after a bad case. Here, too, if it is detected early, there’s that much more of a chance to get absolutely back to normal as quickly as possible. What are the ways that you can prevent breast cancer? Take a look at the measures that you could adopt to prevent this condition. While it is not foolproof, it will definitely help in keeping the disease at bay.

First of all, watch your weight. High estrogen levels mean you could be more prone to breast cancer. The levels of estrogen go up when there is more fatty tissue in the body. This usually happens during menopause when hormonal changes mean that women tend to put on weight. Unfortunately, this is the time when not too many women bother about how they look so they just themselves go. What you need to do is to practice self-control and say a stern ”no” to all fatty foods. This is one way to keep your weight down. Don’t eat because you’re bored or feeling low or you’re lonely. Think slim and get there. It might be worth it talking to your doctor about the quantities that you need every day and the kind of foods to eat and what to avoid. The other way to do this is to exercise.

It’s best if women cut down on the drinking. Never mind what kind of alcohol, anything is bad news as far as breast cancer goes. Why this is so is anyone’s guess but the link between the two is strong so it is best avoided. Maybe the occasional drink when you are celebrating something is fine, otherwise stick to non-alcoholic beverages. What is very good as a preventive is a citrus juice. All citrus fruits are supposed to lower the risks of breast cancer.

Antibiotics and pesticides are also bad for breast cancer. Try and use natural alternatives to get rid of pests and as far as antibiotics are concerned do not use them unless it is absolutely necessary. What is good not only for the heart but to prevent breast cancer as well seems to be aspirin. A regular intake is supposed to be beneficial.
